Don Freedman of the Firm and his wife Ruth Freedman presented a paper, “Assessing and Enhancing the Capacity of Individuals with Dual Diagnosis to Make Informed Health and Mental Health Decisions,” at the Annual Conference of the National Association of the Dually Diagnosed (NADD), in San Diego, on October 26, 2006. NADD is a research and advocacy organization dealing with persons with developmental disabilities and mental health needs.

Don and Ruth Freedman have presented many times together over the years on law, disability, and ethics topics. Ruth is a professor and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs of the Boston University School of Social Work, and is widely known for her writing and research on disability issues.
