Elder Law
Unique in Mssachusetts, the RF&G Elder Law Group brings together a team of eight experienced attorneys, five paralegals, and support staff, focused on providing the highest quality legal representation of elders. One of the first and now the largest firm in Massachusetts to concentrate on elder law, the lawyers in the Elder Law Group are leaders in their field, with comprehensive expertise in bringing MassHealth (Medicaid) and Medicare, Social Security, Supplemental Security Income, subsidized housing, health insurance and the tools of estate planning and guardianship to bear on the residential and care concerns of the elder client, whether the client is at home, in assisted living, continuing care, or a nursing home.

The lawyers of the Elder Law Group understand the special needs of elders, and combine patience and sensitivity with their knowledge and experience to respond to individuals, spouses and families facing the challenges of aging. Our building and offices are fully accessible, but if you can't get to us, we will get to you. Yes, we do make house calls whenever necessary.

In addition to their legal practice, the lawyers of the RF&G Elder Law Group are actively involved in teaching elder law to other lawyers, human services and financial professionals, and members of the public at large through their writing and talks. Donald N. Freedman is a co-editor and contributing author of the leading treatise on elder law for lawyers, the three-volume “Estate Planning for the Aging or Incapacitated Client in Massachusetts”, published by Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education, Inc. initially in 1998, and with a 2005 update in process. Paula J. Morgan, Susan H. Levin, David H. Jones and Hope Vassos have also all written lengthy chapters on Medicaid, trusts, estate planning and other topics for this comprehensive treatise.

Our lawyers are also leading advocates for the rights of elders. Through their active involvement in the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law, the Women's Bar Association and the Massachusetts Chapter of the Alzheimers Association, they have succeeded in positively impacting legal issues affecting elders.
