On November 30, 2006, firm attorney Donald Freedman co-chaired and spoke at the 9th Annual Elder and Disability Law Conference, sponsored by Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education, Inc. Attorney Freedman, with Attorney Emily Starr, a principal of the Worcester law firm of Ciota, Starr & Vanderlinden, has co-chaired all nine conferences in this series, as well as other conferences annually since 1983, dealing with advanced topics and elder and disability law. The focus of the 2006 Conference was on financing long-term care services. Its title is "back to basics for experienced practitoners." It endeavored to help practioners gain a full understanding of the meaning and implications for planning of recent Medcaid amendments contained in the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005 and recently-implemented Massachusetts state regulations. Attorney Freedman, and also firm attorney Susan Levin, also were featured speakers at plenary sessions of the conference.
